Biographies of ArtistsTatiana Kostour Tatiana Kostour is a well-known and highly respected musician and teacher from the Ukraine, where she graduated from the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Kiev and from the Chernivtsi Music College. In 1996, Tatiana received a Wilfrid Laurier University Music Faculty Scholarship to study with the Penderecki String Quarter, earning a Diploma in Performance.Presently Tatiana is an active orchestra member and performer, with the Brantford Symphony Orchestra, Windsor Symphony and Thunder Bay Symphony. She has performed with the London Symphony in Canada, the Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra in Kiev, Ukraine. She was concertmaster of the Grand River Chorus Orchestra in Brantford, of the K-W Chamber Orchestra in Waterloo, and with the K-W Philharmonic Choir. Tatiana is also a highly sought music teacher, in the Kitchener-Waterloo area because of her exceptional talent with violin training for all levels, as well as piano up to grade 6 and theory rudiments. Every year her students win top placements in Kiwanis Music Festivals, plus many of them are scholarship winners. Piano and Fortepiano Faculty Member of Wilfrid Laurier University As a concert pianist, Dr. Heather Dawn Taves has performed as guest soloist with Canadian symphony orchestras coast to coast. She has performed in recital at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Place des Arts in Montreal, Merkin Hall in New York City, the Prague Spring Festival in the Czech Republic, the Madras Philharmonic Society in India, and Radio Zurich in Switzerland. She has been featured on CBC TV and Radio 2, and has recorded music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. Taves is also an active composer, contemporary pianist and improviser. She has worked with such icons of twentieth century avant-garde music as John Cage, George Crumb, and Elliott Carter, and has premiered many works by composers, including Glenn Buhr and Peter Hatch. Her recent creative work includes collaborating with Barbara Croall to direct "Spirit of Understanding" a production which brings together Aboriginal non-Native musicians working in urban music, performance art and video. Taves obtained a Bachelor of Music degree with high distinction in performance from McGill University at age 19, a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. ^Up^ Olena KlyucharovaOlena Klyucharova is a classically trained pianist, and started playing the piano at the age of 4. She attended the Glier State Music College of Kiev from 1991-1995, and earned the Artist Diploma (Highest Honours) in Piano Performance from the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in 2000.Olena was a prize-winner at major competitions in Russia and the Ukraine . As one of the most promising young artists in the former Soviet Union, Olena was selected to perform in the US, Riga, Moscow, and France. She has produced a CD of piano repertoire by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. In addition to her extensive experience as a performer, Olena is a qualified piano teacher, accompanist, and chamber musician. Since taking up residence in Kitchener-Waterloo, she has been accompanying the Philharmonic Chamber Singers, vocal students at Wilfrid Laurier University, performing with the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony (London, Kitchener, Toronto) and giving recitals locally in the Kitchener Waterloo Chamber Music series, as well as at the River Run Centre in Guelph. ^Up^ Zhanna Wohl-Yerin Zhanna Wohl-Yerin is a professional pianist as well as an experienced piano and voice teacher. Raised in a highly musical family, her introduction to the world of music began at an early age. Zhanna's own wonderful childhood experiences with music led her to complete specialized studies and a Diploma at an elite Children’s Music College in her native homeland, Kazakhstan. Zahnna went on to graduate from the prestigious State Conservatory in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, with the following qualifications: Performance Artist, Accompanist, and Pedagogical Music Education. At that time, she participated in numerous concerts, competitions and also taught at the Children’s Music College. Shortly after immigrating to Canada with her family in 1992, she was invited to perform as an accompanist for several soloists. Soon she began to perform in various venues in south-western Ontario such as Maureen Forester Recital Hall, Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), in Waterloo; Centre in the Square in Kitchener (name another one outside of K-W). Zhanna's dedication and proficiency as a teacher, as well as her advanced-level teaching experience, have earned her and her students an excellent reputation. A number of Zhanna's students, in Russia and Canada, have a strong record of accomplishment; receiving high marks in their music exams. Many have gone on to study at various Universities and engaged in a professional musical career. In 2004, one of her students won a Royal Conservatory of Music Silver Medal. In 2007, Zhanna's past 12 years of work in her community, as the pianist, organist, and choir director at Saint Philip's Lutheran Church, was celebrated by the church's congregation. ^Up^ Cheryl Duvall Cheryl Duvall took private lessons in Oshawa, Ontario with Jane Piersma and Anna Laird before
beginning studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. She completed a B.Mus. with distinction
in both Piano Performance and Music Theory and also has a Chamber Diploma, studying under
Anya Alexeyev, Guy Few, Jamie Parker, and the Penderecki Quartet. She was a two-time
recipient of the Frederick Schneider Music Scholarship and the Wiebe Music Scholarship
for performance and academics during her studies at WLU.
Cheryl maintains a busy performance schedule as accompanist to the Grand Philharmonic Children's Choir and the Addison Women's Choir. She also performs regularly with the Impulse Choir in St. Catherines, and as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist for singers and instrumentalists in Kitchener-Waterloo. In addition to performing, Cheryl enjoys teaching piano and theory students and looking after her dog, Metal. She plans on completing a Masters degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance in the near future. ^Up^ |
